Laurel Park Elementary

Last night I had a great time doing a cooking class at Laurel Park Elementary School for their Wellness Night.  We made a yogurt parfait with Chobani yogurt, granola and fruit.  Then we made a veggie wrap on a whole wheat tortilla with Organic Girl spinach, with a hummas spread.  To top it off all of the students went home with a can of  Amy and Brian’s Coconut Juice and lots of coupons and recipe ideas.  My goal was to inspire kids to get creative and make their own breakfast and lunch…and I even suggested making breakfast in bed for mom and dad!  Thank you to everyone for having me.

Food Revolution Day in NC with Jamie Oliver Foundation

On Saturday I had the honor of conducting a tour at the Western Wake Farmer’s market for Food Revolution Day and then assisted in a cooking class at Whole Foods for 14 kids.  We had a great time and please visit the the Western Wake Farmer’s Market and meet all of the wonderful vendors and their local products.  Whole Foods has a farmer’s market in Cary every Saturday until noon.  Enjoy the photos and remember to encourage your kids to try new healthy foods.

Announcing the winner of my apron decorating contest from Horizon Products USA

I am proud to announce Shivali as the winner of the apron decorating contest.  When I was at the Wake County Eva Perry Library, all of the kids in my Super Saturday special were given an apron from Horizon Products, USA.  I asked the kids to decorate them for a prize basket donated by Whole Foods in Cary, who also provided the food for the event.  Congratulation Shivali, the apron is beautiful…enjoy your basket!

Nina’s Italian Ristorante in Raleigh.

Today I was on my way to learn from the very best Italian Chef in Raleigh, Nina, the owner of Nina’s Ristorante.   I was so excited as were Nina and her daughter, Anna Marie.  On the way there we got a call to confirm we were on our way…everyone was so excited.  When we got there and entered the restaurant, we were met by Anna Marie with a big smile and then we saw Nina on the phone in tears.  Her dad, Pappie, who is 94 and lives in Sicily, Italy had been admitted to the hospital and was not doing well.  Their lives changed in an instance, but they still wanted to help me.  They are an amazing family who came her many years ago and have worked so hard to achieve their dreams and raised money for so many foundations and she was even named “Woman of the Year” for all of her accomplishments.  She is on her way to see her dad…please keep her in your prayers and when you visit her amazing restaurant, please take time to look at all of her achievements over the years and her family photos that she is so proud of.  http://www.ninasrestaurant.com/index.html

Life can change in an instance … enjoy every minute.

Look at these great oven mitts I got as a gift and space Ice Cream from NASA when my friend and her family went to Florida and visited the Kennedy Space Center.  The ice cream tasted like a meringue and melted in your mouth.  I can’t wait to cook with them.
